Can I sell a card back to you that I did not buy here?

Yes — Sell to us is open to anyone with an account, since that is where we pay, and the card does not have to have passed through us. Paste the certification number, send photographs, and you get two offers side by side: an outright purchase at 70% of the FMV on the day the card reaches us (the page shows today’s figure as an estimate), paid within two days, or vault consignment, where we list it and pass on the sale price minus our fee — typically about three weeks. The fee is 5% of the sale (3% above $1,000) plus a $2.00 listing charge, taken only when the card sells, and it is fixed on the day you list: if we change it later, your listing keeps the one you agreed to.

A card you bought from us is a different rate: 80%, because we already know the certification and in most cases the slab never left our vault. The difference between the two is what it costs us to authenticate a card we have never seen.

The two offers are shown together on purpose. Outright is less money sooner, consignment is more money later, and which one is right depends on facts about you that we do not have.

The published buyback rates — 80% of the FMV on cards, 70% of what you paid on Lux — are a different thing, and they apply only to items bought here, and not to a card bought from another collector on the Market. A card we did not sell is bought at 70%, because we carry the authentication risk on it.
